Today’s “Word of the Day” is coup and it is a noun meaning “(in business) a superb, sudden and very successful stroke/act/move; master stroke, success, triumph, feat, successful manoeuvre, major accomplishment, achievement, attainment; (in politics) a sudden, violent, illegal takeover of a government by force; seizure of power, coup d’état, overthrow, ousting, deposition, regime change, putsch”.
Example Sentence: Pfizer has had an exceptionally good pandemic. Today it announced that its Covid-19 vaccine brought in $37bn billion last year, making it easily the most lucrative (profitable) medicine in any given year in history. That isn’t all. For a company that was until recently the least trusted company in the least trusted industrial sector in the United States, Covid-19 has been a PR coup.
