  1. momentum (noun) – the increase in the rate of growth of something; strength, impetus.
  2. core sectors/industries (noun) – the eight industries comprising electricity, steel, refinery products, crude oil, coal, cement, natural gas and fertilizers are classified as core sector industries.
  3. infrastructure (noun) – the basic physical or organisational structure or framework that a country or organization needs in order to function properly. For a whole nation, it includes all the physical systems such as buildings, roads & railways networks, utilities, etc.
  4. broad (adjective) – general, wide-ranging, comprehensive, extensive.
  5. onslaught (noun) – destructive attack, assault, aggression, onrush.
  6. heatwave (noun) – (a long period of) hot weather, hotness, humidity.
  7. run (verb) – operate, function, perform.
  8. provisional data (noun) – preliminary data that may not yet be complete.
  9. provisional (adjective) – temporary, short-term, interim, transitional.
  10. index (noun) – an (economic) data figure reflecting something (e.g. price/quantity) compared with a standard or base value; pointer, indicator.

  29. uptick (noun) – a small increase or upward trend.
  30. reading (noun) – figure, indication, measurement, record.
  31. glimmer (noun) – (a faint) sign, trace/ray, hint (of light/hope).
  32. Index of Industrial Production (IIP) (noun) – a composite (combined/complex) indicator that measures the changes in the volume of production of a basket of industrial products during a given period with respect to the volume of production in a chosen base period.
  33. weight (noun) – larger number, bulk, lion’s share.
  34. infirmity (noun) – weakness, feebleness, impairment; unsteadiness, hesitation, instability.
  35. lag (noun) – delay, slowness.
  36. Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) (noun) – Purchasing Managers’ Index or PMI is an economic indicator, which is derived after monthly surveys of different companies. The index shows trends in both the manufacturing and services sector. The index helps in determining whether the market conditions, as seen by purchasing managers, is expanding, contracting or staying the same. It is used to provide information regarding the current and future business conditions.
  37. suggest (verb) – indicate, denote, point to, signify.
  38. rebound (verb) – recover, revive, rally, bounce back, pick up, come back (in value of something after decline). 
  39. heatwave-hit (adjective) – affected badly by heatwave.
  40. hit (verb) – affect badly.
  41. percentage point (noun) – the difference between two percentages is termed as percentage point. (for example: “Interest Rates Jump From 10% to 12%”. In this case, the interest rate increased by “2 percentage points” or you can say that the interest rate is increased by 20%).
  42. long-run (adjective) – relating to a long period of time.
  43. step up (phrasal verb) – increase, intensify; quicken, speed up, accelerate.
  44. buoyant (adjective) – booming, progressing, improving, thriving, growing, developing, going strong.
  45. led to past & past participle of lead to (verb) – cause, result in, bring on, bring about, give rise to.
  46. extent (noun) – degree, level, range, amount.
  47. Inflationary (adjective) – relating to inflation; causing inflation. 
  48. couple with (verb) – combine, connect, link.
  49. respondent (noun) – a person who replies to something (questionnaire, etc.)
  50. slide (verb) – slip, fall, drop, decrease, slump.
  51. speed bump (noun) – road bump, speed breaker, something that makes progress slower; obstruction, obstacle, setback.
  52. upcoming (adjective) – forthcoming, approaching, nearing, impending, imminent.
  53. tweak (noun) – a slight change or modification.
