  3. Free Movement Regime (FMR) (noun) – The FMR came into existence in 2018 as a part of India’s Act East policy. The FMR is a mutually agreed arrangement between the two countries that allows people (tribes) living along the border on either side to travel up to 16 km inside the other country without a visa.

The “Mizo” (poetic version of “Zomi”), people are a ethnic group native to the Indian state of Mizoram and neighbouring regions of Northeast India.

Act East Policy (noun) – a diplomatic initiative by The Government of India to promote economic, strategic and cultural relations with the vast Asia-Pacific region at different levels which would eventually provide enhanced connectivity to the states of North Eastern region. What began as ‘Look East’ launched in 1991 transformed into ‘Act East’ in 2014.
