- accountable (verb) – responsible, liable, answerable; obligated, beholden.
- term (noun) – tenure, period of/in office; period, time, stint, spell.
- sought past tense of seek (verb) – try, aim, attempt.
- authority (noun) – control, charge, domination, influence.
- context (noun) – circumstances, conditions, situations,
- the fact that (phrase) – used to refer to a particular situation under consideration.

- Uniform Civil Code (UCC) (noun) – Uniform Civil Code or UCC is to provide one law for all the religious communities governing the issues of marriage, adoption, inheritance, divorce etc. Article 44 of the Indian constitution says, “The state shall endeavour to secure a Uniform Civil Code for the citizens throughout the territory of India.” Article 44 is one of the Directive Principles of State Policy, described in Part IV of the Constitution.

- short selling (noun) – In SEBI’s words, short selling is the selling of a stock that the seller does not own at the time of trade. Short seller is a person who sells a stock that he/she doesn’t own.
- Hindenburg Research LLC (noun) – it is an investment research firm with a focus on activist short-selling founded by Nathan Anderson in 2017 and based in New York City.
- accuse (verb) – charge with, lay charges against; blame for, hold responsible for.
- regulator (noun) – an association/statutory body that supervises a particular business activity.
- Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) (noun) – It was established on April 12, 1992 in accordance with the provisions of the Securities and Exchange Board of India Act, 1992. It is the regulator of the securities and commodity market in India owned by the Government of India.
- conflict of interest (noun) – a situation in which a person cannot do his/her job fairly because he/she has the power to decide something in a way that would be to his/her advantage, although this may not be the best decision.
- dynastic (adjective) – relating to a dynasty (leaders who are all from the same family).

- claim (verb) – assert, state, declare, affirm, insist (usually without proof/evidence).

- stay the course (phrase) – continue doing something in spite of difficulties; to continue doing something till the end even though it is tough/challenging; work hard till the end to accomplish the task.

- consensus building (noun) – a process involving a good-faith effort to meet the interests of all stakeholders and seek a unanimous agreement.
- opportunistic (adjective) – selfish, self-centred, self-seeking, egocentric, inward-looking.
- overlook (verb) – reject, ignore, neglect, discount, disregard, leave out, dismiss, pay no heed to.
- functionary (noun) – government official; an official who is involved in public administration or government, through either election, appointment, selection, or employment.
- conspiracy (noun) – (unlawful) plan/plot/script, intrigue, collaboration/deception, collusion.
- label (verb) – describe, classify, categorize, typify, call, name, term.
- as such (phrase) – being as earlier mentioned/described; as it depends entirely on what has been said in the preceding sentence.
