  1. dizzying (adjective) – confused, muddled, bewildered; off-balance, shaky, unsteady.
  2. climb (noun) – increase, rise.
  3. retail or consumer price index (CPI) inflation (noun) – it is a measure of the total inflation within an economy, including commodities such as food and energy prices. The CPI monitors retail prices at a certain level for a particular commodity. The change in the price index over a period of time is referred to as CPI-based inflation or retail inflation.
  4. core inflation (noun) – it is a measure of the total inflation within an economy, excluding commodities such as food and energy prices (which change frequently).
  5. inflation (noun) – simply meaning “cost of living”; increase of price level of goods & services and vice versa decrease of currency value.
  6. pose (verb) – constitute, present, create, cause (a problem or danger or risk).
  7. macroeconomic (adjective) – relating to the branch of economics concerned with large-scale factors (interest rates/national productivity).
  8. macroeconomic stability (noun) – it describes a national economy that has minimized vulnerability to external shocks, which in turn increases its prospects for sustained growth. ‘Macroeconomic stability’ means that government budgets need to be broadly in balance so that borrowings to finance the deficit are kept to the minimum.

  39. avian influenza (AI) (noun) – it is also known as influenza A or the bird flu. It primarily infects birds but can pose health risks to people.

  42. with regard to (phrase) – in respect of, concerning, with reference to.
  43. bring to the fore (phrase) – to move something forward to a most important position (to make it more visible).

  49. outbreak (noun) – outburst, flaring up, breakout, sudden appearance/occurrence of something.
  50. base effect (noun) – it relates to inflation in the corresponding period of the previous year, if the inflation rate was too low in the corresponding period of the previous year, even a smaller rise in the Price Index will arithmetically give a high rate of inflation now.
  51. wane (verb) – decrease, decline, diminish/dwindle gradually.
  52. basis point (BPS) (noun) – a unit of measure used in finance to describe the percentage change in the value or rate of a financial instrument. One basis point is equivalent to 0.01% (1/100th of a percent). Used for measuring change in interest rate/yield.
  53. outlook (noun) – point of view, viewpoint, interpretation, opinion, thinking.
  54. far from (phrase) – not, not at all.
  55. reassuring (adjective) – comforting, encouraging, heartening.
  56. firm footing (noun) – firm position; firm ground.

PMI data is used for accurate and timely insight into the health of a particular economy. The PMI data are used by financial and corporate professionals to better understand where economies and markets are headed, and to uncover opportunities.
