  1. woes (noun) – trouble, difficulty, problem.
  2. current account deficit (CAD) (noun) – the amount by which money relating to trade, investment etc going out of a country is more than the amount coming in.
  3.  gross domestic product (GDP) (noun) – a measure of economic activity in a country. It is the total value of a country’s annual output of goods and service.
  4. contrast (noun) – difference, dissimilarity, variation.
  5. widen (verb) – increase, swell/develop, make large/supplement.
  6. trade deficit (noun) – a trade deficit (a deficit in the balance of trade) occurs when the value of a country’s imports exceeds that of its exports. It is also called a trade gap.

  8. abate (verb) – decrease, reduce, diminish/lessen.
  9. brent crude (noun) – a classification of crude oil produced from the oil platform in the North Sea.
  10. volatility (noun) – fluctuation, inconsistency, unpredictability.
  11. diversify (verb) – enlarge/expand, widen, branch out.
  12. tap (into) (verb) – draw on, exploit, make use of/utilize.
  13. perennial (adjective) – everlasting, unchanging, permanent.
  14. per se (adverb) – (Latin phrase) as such; by definition, essentially.
  15. capital inflow (noun) – a steady movement of capital (amount) into a place, economy, activity etc.
  16. capital outflow (noun) – money/assets flowing out of (or leaving) a particular country’s economy.
  17. brisk (adjective) – good, active, busy/lively.
  18. dry up (phrasal verb) – fade away, dwindle, wane/subside.
  19. liquidity (noun) – a measure of activity (i.e. the ability to buy or sell easily) in a market.
  20. come under (phrasal verb) – be subjected to.
  21. piecemeal (adjective & adverb) – a little at a time, bit by bit, in stages.
  22. ill-advised (adjective) – unwise, misguided, short-sighted/thoughtless.
  23. kick the can down the road (phrase) – delay, defer/put off, postpone; to avoid dealing with a difficult situation or making a hard decision until later.
  24. over-reliance (noun) – excessive dependency.
