Classical computers, which include smartphones and laptops, encode information in binary “bits” that can either be 0s or 1s. In a quantum computer, the basic unit of memory is a quantum bit or qubit.

- artificial intelligence (AI) (noun) – an area of computer science that deals with giving machines the ability to seem like they have human intelligence.
- cutting-edge (adjective) – advanced, state-of-the-art, innovational, pioneering, pathbreaking.
- infrastructure (noun) – the basic physical or organisational structure or framework that a country or organization needs in order to function properly. For a whole nation, it includes all the physical systems such as buildings, roads & railways networks, utilities, etc.
- lack (verb) – be without, be deficient in, require, want.
- building block (noun) – a basic unit/component/part.
- chipset (noun) – a collection of electronic components that work together to enable the functioning of a computer system.
- semiconductor (noun) – a substance that has specific electrical properties that enable it to serve as a foundation for computers and other electronic devices. Semiconductors are materials (silicon or germanium) which have a conductivity between conductors (generally metals like copper) and nonconductors or insulators (such as most ceramics/plastics).
- fab (noun) – a semiconductor fabrication facility (or) a manufacturing plant that makes microchips/chips.
- workforce (noun) – workers, employees, staff.
- ecosystem (noun) – complex situation/environment.
- capitalise on (phrasal verb) – take advantage of, use, make use of, benefit from.
- lofty (adjective) – tall, very high, giant, imposing, magnificent.
- fall short (phrase) – fail to meet/reach; be deficient/inadequate/insufficient.
- roadmap (noun) – plan/strategy to do something successfully.
- tangible (adjective) – real, actual, solid, concrete, substantial, well defined.
- structural (adjective) – organizational, formational, systemic.
- bottleneck (noun) – a condition which appears as not solvable and so delays the process; setback, problem, issue, snag, difficulty.
- address (verb) – tackle, deal with, attend to, try to sort out.
- powerhouse (noun) – a person/organisation/country/state with a lot of energy, power & influence.
- incentivise (verb) – encourage, motivate, galvanize.
- sustainable (adjective) – relating to practices or conditions that can be maintained or continued over the long term without causing significant negative impacts on the environment, society, or economy.
- sustainable (adjective) – reasonable, sensible, well-founded (without disturbing the balance of nature and then without exhausting all of the natural resources).
- engagement (noun) – participation, taking part, involvement.
