Phrase of the Day (wring one's hands)-23SEP21

Today’s “Phrase of the Day” is “wring one’s hands” and its meaning is “to twist and rub one’s hands together because of great distress particularly when someone has no authority/power and can’t do anything to change the situation”.

Example Sentence: A great deal of wringing of hands about the choices made may exist, but on a deeper reflection, it would be apparent that the original sin was the U.S. Agreement with the Taliban last year, which conferred on the group a degree of international recognition. Many more aftershocks can also be expected. Hopes of a pragmatic Afghanistan behind the religious garb (cover/guise) may thus prove highly evanescent.
