Today’s “Phrase of the Day” is “(something) doesn’t/won’t wash“ and it is a phrase meaning “used to say that somebody’s excuse/reason is not true and it won’t be acceptable/believable; won’t be plausible, won’t be convincing, won’t be credible, doesn’t seem genuine, doesn’t make sense, doesn’t pass muster”.
Example Sentence: Tech giants (for example: Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google, and etc.) are not playing according to economic rules set by the market, but by rules they largely set themselves. That won’t wash.
