Today’s “Phrase of the Day” is “keep one’s head above water“ and its meaning is “to just be able to survive (and avoid getting into difficulties); manage, survive, get through”.
Example Sentence: On 7 February the energy watchdog (energy regulator in the United Kingdom), Ofgem, sets the new maximum price for energy bills… Energy bill and tax rises will hammer households by an average £1,200 from April, and could turn voters against Boris Johnson. This means 2 million households, which as recently as last autumn were still keeping their heads above water, will sink when the new cap kicks in on 1 April.
