- Direct-to-Home (DTH) (noun) – a digital satellite service that provides television viewing services directly to subscribers through satellite transmission anywhere in the country.
- foreign direct investment (FDI) (noun) – Investment from one country into another (normally by companies rather than governments) that involves establishing operations or acquiring tangible assets, including stakes in other businesses.
- scale down (phrasal verb) – reduce, lower, decrease.
- there is no escaping (phrase) – used to say that something is definitely true and cannot be rejected.
- measure (noun) – portion, quantity, amount.
- buffet (verb) – (of difficult situations) afflict, trouble, burden, bother, beset someone repeatedly over a long period of time.
- norm (noun) – standard, convention, regulation.
- Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) (noun) – the usage and licensing fee that telecom/DTH operators are charged by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). According to the DoT, the calculations should incorporate all revenues earned by a telecom company – including from non-telecom sources such as deposit interests and sale of assets.

- Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) (noun) – a unified representative body of the television broadcasters in India. The organisation was founded in the year 1999. Over 250 Indian television channels are associated with it.
- liberalisation (noun) – removal or loosening of restrictions on something, typically an economic or political system.
- New Tariff Order (NTO) (noun) – In January 2020, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) notified an amended New Regulatory Framework, which includes a New Tariff Order (NTO) for the for cable and broadcasting services under which cable TV users will be able to access more channels at lower subscription price.
