Today’s “Phrase of the Day” is “make up lost ground“ and it is a phrase meaning “to become successful again after having disadvantages, delays or problems (in a conflict or competition); cope, overcome, surmount, get over”.
Example Sentence: Biden holds the lead. Trump shouting down the questions was not what he needed to score an upset and make up lost ground in the final debate. Dredging up Rudy Giuliani’s (Mayor of New York City) escapades (adventures/dangerous acts/tricks) trying to dig dirt (discover and reveal damaging information) on Biden’s family isn’t selling with (persuade, win over, get acceptance) the public.
