Word List-1 (To improve Vocabulary)

  1. scathing (adjective) – devastating, scornful, harsh/severe.
  2. indictment (noun) – charge, accusation, allegation/citation.
  3. set aside (phrasal verb) – nullify, dismiss, reject.
  4. searing (adjective) – critical, strong, fierce.
  5. office of profit (noun) – a position/an office that provides to a person holding it some financial benefit.
  6. parliamentary secretary (noun) – The parliamentary secretary is a person appointed to help a minister and deputise in his work. He/she has a status below that of a minister. Since an oath of secrecy is administered, he/she has access to official papers.
  7. vest (with) (verb) – give legal right to (power).
  8. incur (verb) – experience, be subject to, suffer.
  9. adjudicate (verb) – judge, adjudge, give/declare a verdict (on a disputed matter).
  10. on its merits (phrase) – to evaluate something based on essential inherent quality not by external aspects.
  11. specious (adjective) – misleading, false, deceptive.
