Today’s “Word of the Day” is heuristic and it is a noun meaning “(shortcut) methods or (rule-of-thumb) strategies used to solve problems and make judgments quickly and efficiently”.

Example Sentence: Our findings also bring useful insights for transnational organisations (e.g., the World Health Organization,…). Typically, transnational organisations use the country’s per capita income as the cut-off line to determine a country’s eligibility to receive vaccine donations. While this criterion is a less controversial heuristic, an underdeveloped region within a nation, made worse by the lack of health infrastructure and the lack of political alignment between federal and regional governments, may deserve additional attention during pandemics.
