Today’s “Word of the Day” is “grandstanding“ and it is a noun meaning “a way of speaking or acting to get attention from the spectators (people) and then influencing them”.
Example Sentence: In some respects, preventing climate breakdown is highly complicated. But in another, it’s really simple: we need to leave fossil fuels in the ground. All the bluster (humbug) and grandstanding, the extravagant promises and detailed mechanisms discussed in Glasgow this week amount to nothing if this simple and obvious thing doesn’t happen.
This word is present in The Guardian article Cop26 has to be about keeping fossil fuels in the ground. All else is distraction and click here to read it.
