Today’s “Word of the Day” is “do away with” and it is a phrasal verb meaning “remove, abolish, quash, eliminate, discontinue, cancel, abandon, drop, stop, scrap, get rid of”.
Example Sentence: The law on criminal defamation needs an urgent review. Many countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States have scrapped it. India’s neighbour Sri Lanka too has done away with it. It is indeed a surrealistic (bizarre/absurd) situation where senior political leaders get jailed for making humorous or off the cuff remarks in election speeches.
