National Sports Development Code of India (or) “the Sports Code” (noun) – The Code was notified by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India (Government) in 2011, with an aim of bringing together all notifications and instructions pertaining to good governance of National Sports Federations. It is a set of regulations passed by the government in 2011, which enunciated the ‘basic universal principles of good governance, ethics and fair play.’ The Sports Code seeks to put restrictions on the age and tenure of the office-bearers of federations apart from envisaging transparent functioning along with free and fair elections.

FIFA is from French word “Fédération Internationale de Football Association” or in English “International Federation of Association Football”. 
  19. All India Football Federation (AIFF) (noun) – All India Football Federation (AIFF), the governing body of Football in the country was formed on June 23, 1937. AIFF has its headquarters at the Football House in Dwarka, New Delhi.
  20. lift (verb) – remove, cancel, withdraw, annul, revoke, stop, end, terminate (a restriction).
  21. run (verb) – be in charge, administer, manage.
  22. Committee of Administrators (CoA) (Football) (noun) – the Supreme Court appointed a three-member Committee of Administrators (CoA) headed by former top court judge A. R. Dave to manage the affairs of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and adoption of its constitution in line with the National Sports Code and model guidelines.
  23. Committee of Administrators (CoA) (Table tennis) (noun) – a Delhi High Court bench of Justice Rekha Palli suspended the executive committee of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) and transferred its control to a COA headed by Justice Gita Mittal to manage the affairs of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and adoption of its constitution in line with the National Sports Code and model guidelines.
  24. Committee of Administrators (CoA) (Hockey) (noun) – a Delhi High Court bench led by Justice Najmi Waziri constituted a COA, under Justice Dave’s chairmanship, to prepare a constitution for Hockey India in accordance with the National Sports Code and also an electoral roll for elections to the executive committee.

  35. Thomas Cup (noun) – World Men’s Team Championships; it is an international badminton competition among teams representing member nations of the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the sport’s global governing body.
  36. Chess Olympiad (noun) – Chess Olympiad is a major international chess tournament happening biennially (once every two years) and it is organised by FIDE, the international chess federation. Teams from 163 countries participated in this year’s Chess Olympiad contest. (An online version of the Chess Olympiad contest is being held for the first time this year because of coronavirus).
  37. get one’s act together (phrase) – get organized yourself to do something effectively; recover/regain control of oneself, get a grip/hold on oneself.
  38. incumbent (noun) – current/existing/present holder, bearer or occupant of an office.
  39. gracefully (adverb) – respectfully; naturally, effortlessly, smoothly.
  40. make way (phrase) – move aside, make room, clear the way, stand back; relinquish/quit (a job/position).
