  1. caper (verb/noun) – dance, jump, skip/leap.
  2. depreciation (noun) – devaluation, decrease in value, reduction.
  3. prolonged (adjective) – continuous, persistent, unending.
  4. relative (adjective) – considerable, some, reasonable.
  5. nudge (verb) – encourage, prompt, stimulate/coax.
  6. retract (verb) – take back, withdraw, reverse.
  7. have something to do with (phrase) – relate topertain to, have a bearing on.
  8. woe (noun) – trouble, difficulty, problem.
  9. devaluation (noun) – the reduction in the formal/official value of a currency with regard to other currencies.
  10. trade war/spat (noun) – a condition in which a country increase tariffs on foreign goods and impose quota restrictions to restrict other countries’ trade.

  12. currency manipulator (noun) – the countries which weaken their currencies to lift exports. They’ve included China, which held down the value of its currency in the past to speed its economic development.
  13. depress (verb) – slow down, reduce, devalue.
  14. bond yield (noun) – bond yield  is the annualized percentage return that an investor will obtain from buying a bond. In general, the yield of a bond is inversely proportional to its price. This means that as the yield increases, the price decreases (and vice versa).
  15. recession (noun) – economic decline, downturn, slowdown.
  16. jitters (noun) – nervousness, uneasiness, anxiety.
  17. sell-out (noun) – the complete sale of all securities such as stocks, bonds, ETFs, commodities or currencies (in the equity market).
  18. equity market (noun) – stock market, share market, a stock exchange. It is where traders buy and sell shares of companies on a public exchange.
  19. foreign portfolio investor (noun) – Investors investing in financial assets, such as shares, government bonds, corporate bonds, convertible securities, infrastructure securities etc in a foreign country.
  20. capital outflow (noun) – money/assets flowing out of (or leaving) a particular country’s economy.
  21. alarm (verb) – frighten, distress, upset.
  22. current account deficit (CAD) (noun) – the amount by which money relating to trade, investment etc going out of a country is more than the amount coming in.
  23. foreign exchange reserve or forex (noun) – Foreign exchange. Forex (exchange) reserves are the amounts of assets /money in foreign currencies that a country has in its central bank (in India, it is Reserve bank of India).
  24. over-value (verb) – overstate, overemphasize, overestimate.
  25. rely upon (phrasal verb) – depend on, bank on, count on.
  26. depressing (adjective) – upsetting, distressing, discouraging; causing a damaging reduction in economic activity.
  27. perk up (verb) – brighten, revive, cheer up.
  28. bounce back (verb) – recover, revive, rebound.
  29. depreciate (verb) – decrease, decline, drop/lose value.
  30. outlier (noun) – a person/thing which is  detached from the main system.
