Today’s “Phrase of the Day” is one’s pound of flesh and its meaning is “the act of insisting on receiving what you are entitled to, despite the fact that it may create problems for someone from whom it is demanded”.

Example Sentence: India have reached a situation where they don’t need the ICC (International Cricket Council) money. The Big Three (India, England & Australia) apart, most countries are dependent on ICC handouts… India demanding their pound of flesh as the country that contributes the greatest amount of money to the cricket economy is understandable… Sure, in the short term the ICC cannot do without India. But India cannot do without the ICC either, or they will be reduced to playing a couple of countries over and over again till television loses interest.
