A paper in the Indian journal Current Science suggests an unexpected cause for the inflammatory brain disease — encephalitis — found in Malkangiri district of Odisha.For further reading, visit “The Hindu”.

  1. encephalitis (noun) – it is a sudden sudden inflammation (swelling) of the brain.

Both oral herpes infections and genital herpes infections are mostly asymptomatic (showing no symptoms) but can cause mild symptoms or painful blisters or ulcers at the site of infection.
  21. west nile virus (noun) –  West Nile Virus (WNV) can cause neurological disease and death in people. WNV is transmitted through infected mosquitoes (mosquitoes become infected when they feed on infected birds,). Approximately 80% of people who are infected will not show any symptoms.

  24. archaic (adjective) – obsolete, old-fashioned, outdated/very old.
  25. relic (noun) – an outmoded thing which is survived from ancient days.
